Education alone is increasingly ineffective in bringing long-term health change
Implementation and Building Capacity and Sustainability
Building capacity and sustainability within the organisation is vital to the success of health coaching health practitioners working within chronic disease prevention and self-management or other programs.
Health coaching often represents a change in the way that clinicians practice and organisational systems need to be aligned with the approach. This shift often requires subsequent changes to paperwork and/or other data collection systems, reflection on key performance indicators, and allocation of time and human resources to skills development and systems integration. The Managers' implementation module is the first step in this process. HCA has several options to assist with in-house capacity building and sustainability.
HCA Model Certificates of Accreditation – Level 1 and Level 2
These Certificates are for individual practitioners who have completed the HCA core training. They provide assessment of evidence in competency in using the HCA Model and 10 step process for facilitating health behaviour change.

HCA Peer Leader Certification & Support Program
The aim of developing in-house HCA Peer Leaders is to build organisational capacity and sustainability in implementing health behaviour change processes in clinical practice and programs.
The HCA Peer Leader Certification & Support Program is a 12 month program. HCA Peer Leaders are supported by HCA to:
- Develop their knowledge and skills in using the HCA Model of Health Change and corresponding documentation to a sound level of competency.
- Provide skills development and program implementation support to staff within their organisations that have attended HCA Core Training Part 1 (Health Coaching for Health Professionals: The HCA Model two-day workshop).
- Provide overview presentations of the HCA Model of Health Change to staff in their organisation that have not attended HCA Core Training Part 1.
