In association with Health Coaching Australia

HCA has changed its name!

HCA has changed its name from Health Coaching Australia to Health Change Australia in recognition that the HCA Model of Health Change (the 'HCA approach' for short) is applicable across many clinical roles, not just health coaching.

Whilst we continue to work with organisations to train staff and embed behaviour change into health coaching programs, most of the clinicians that we train are involved in clinical consultations for the prevention, self-management and rehabilitation of chronic conditions. We think that the name change better reflects the breadth of what we do.

Welcome

There is growing recognition that simply educating patients is not enough to bring about long-term health behaviour change.

Health Change Australia offers program implementation consultancy and professional development training in the HCA approach to health behaviour change.

The HCA Model of Health Change is a clinical practice framework for integrating client-centred communication and behaviour change principles and processes into clinical consultations and programs. It provides practitioners with an evidence-based health behaviour change clinical pathway to complement usual clinical pathways for prevention and treatment of health conditions. The purpose of the model is to increase the likelihood that clients will act in accordance with lifestyle and treatment recommendations appropriate to their health condition/s.

The HCA Model is comprised of: a foundation of six recommended knowledge and skills sets for clinicians; a set of practice principles to guide the clinical communication style, and a 10 Step framework which acts as a decision tool for clinicians to use in their consultations.
